How To Generate Tons More Competition Entries & Turn Them into Loyal Customers

Will the majority of the people that actually want to buy from at the next boat show you attend simple walk in and out of your stand, and never make contact with your business ever again? 

Is your stand simple priming them to buy from one of your competitor's? Are sales slipping through your fingers and landing right in your competitor's lap?

There is a company called Did You buy and what they do is follow up with people (via a survey) after they have attended a trade show and asked them. Did you buy?

 

The number one statistic they come up with is that 50% of people that inquire about a product or service at a trade show actually buy it. That is a very interesting statistic to know, but the really interesting thing is when they actually buy.

 
  • 15% buy that product or service within 90 days.

  • 85% buy within 90 days and 18 months.

 

You know that old saying the fortune is in the follow up? Well they were right. Especially when you take into consideration these statistics (that I discovered via Mal Emery) regarding how many contacts people need to make with your business before they actually buy from you.

 
  • 2% of sales are made on the first contact

  • 3% of sales are made on the second contact

  • 5% of sales are made on the third contact

  • 10% of sales are made on the fourth contact

  • 80% of sales are made on the fifth to twelfth contact

 

The big challenge for you is of course is to get as many people’s contact details as possible, right? Of course it is that goes without saying. And we all know the best way to get people to give up their details is to give them a competition to enter.

Throw up an awesome prize and you are good to go right? Not always. I once saw a competition on Facebook where the first prize was a boat worth over $25,000, and the competition barely generated any interest at all.

Why? Well it comes back to psychology. People just don’t believe that they are going to win a prize that good, so they don’t bother entering even though they really want to.
